ABOUT THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences is the pioneer Faculty of the College of Medical Sciences. It was established at the initial conceptualization of the College in the year 2011 by the Pioneer Vice Chancellor Professor Abdullahi Mahdi. Then, the leadership and the entire activities of the Faculty was under the Provost Office, headed by Professor G.D Kalaye until the year 2016, when the management of the University appointed Dr. Yakubu Sadau as the Ag. Dean of the Faculty and subsequent reappointment as substantive Dean in 2018. There are three (3) Departments in the Faculty, mainly the Department of Human Anatomy, Human Physiology and Medical Biochemistry. These departments rendered service to programs such as Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) and Bachelor of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Following successful resource verification by the National University Commission in the year 2017, BSc Human Anatomy and BSc Human Physiology were introduced. Currently, the Dean of Faculty is Dr. Usman BALA who is serving on acting capacity. It is our hope that, by our holistic efforts and strict adherence to the University rules and regulations, the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences will continue to train and produce graduates that are worthy in character and in learning, who meet up with global standards in the knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology for the award of degrees by Gombe State University
