The department of Anaesthesia was established in June 2016. Dr. Yusuf Tanimu Sambo is the pioneer Head of Department. The department is involved in training of clinical students in 500 level during their sub-specialty posting.

Each set of students in their 5th year (500L) of training under go 16 weeks posting in anesthesia. During the posting, the students receive lectures, tutorials and practical sessions. The practical sessions are usually in the skill acquisition laboratory where they acquire proficiency on administration of regional anaesthesia (spinal, epidural and caudal blocks), endotracheal intubation, peripheral nerve blocks and venous access (peripheral/ central).
