FACULTY OF EDUCATION

The Faculty of Education is one of the three founding faculties of the University. The Faculty of Education commenced academic activities with a department – Department of Education- in September 2005 with its first set of forty-six (46) students in the 2005/2006 academic session. At inception, the Faculty of Education had seven undergraduate programmes (all domiciled in the Department of Education) in the following teaching subjects:
 Biology,
 Chemistry,
 Physics,
 Mathematics,
 Geography,
 History and
 English
These are vital subjects needed in secondary schools.

About the Faculty of Education

In the 2006/2007 academic session, two new undergraduate programmes were introduced. These are B.A. (Ed.) Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Religious Studies, these two subjects are of paramount importance to the moral upbringing of youths.

In the 2013/2014 session, the Faculty commenced its Postgraduate programmes with the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with 12 students. The PGDE programme is designed for non-education degree holders who desire to have professional qualification in teaching and for those with education background at the third class level and desire to make up for their deficiencies.

In the 2017/2018 session, the Faculty of Education added two postgraduate programmes namely; M.Ed. Education Psychology and M.Ed. Guidance and counselling, while the third M.Ed. programme - M.Ed. Science Education commenced in the 2018/2019 session.

In September 2019, the Department of Education which had been the only Department of the Faculty of Education was split into three:
 Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education
 Department of Educational Foundations
 Department of Science Education

In the same September 2019, three additional undergraduate programmes were introduced:
 B.Sc. (Ed.) Political Science
 B.Sc. (Ed.) Computer Science and
 B.Sc. (Ed.) Economics.

In the same vein, in the 2019/2020 session, three postgraduate programmes at the PhD level in Guidance and Counselling, Educational Psychology and Science Education commenced.
