Dr. Tola Midala, Head of Department

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Pharmacy education has a strong scientific and laboratory based curriculum. With the shift of focus from product to patient, change is strongly proposed to strengthen Clinical Pharmacy in the curriculum. This is because there is a need for pharmacists to be integrated into the Health Care Team and to play a more participatory role in patient care for the benefit of the patient. This will encourage pharmacists to develop critical thinking and clinical problem solving skills. With this new focus, the Pharmacists Council of Nigerian (PCN), the statutory body regulating the education and practice of Pharmacy in Nigeria, has directed that all Schools of Pharmacy create a Department of Clinical Pharmacy. In addition drug monitoring (Pharmacovigilance) is increasingly becoming more popular worldwide and these important components of Clinical Pharmacy need also to be strengthened.
