ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The history of the department can be traced back to the establishment of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Gombe State University which started in 2010/2011 academic session with its pioneer Head of Department in person of Professor Magaji Garba who was the chairman of 6-man committee for the establishment of the faculty right from inception and also the then Dean of the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. The Department had two(2) permanent and Five (5) visiting Staff then. Dr. Mohammed Garba Tom after arriving for one year Sabbatical was University of Maiduguri, appointed as the Head of Department in 2017, following the appointment of Prof. Magaji Garba as the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State. He headed the department till the end of June 2018. And Letter Prof. Ibrahim Mohammed Sule who came alos on Sabatical leave from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU)Zaria was appointed as the Head of the department in July 2018, and he letter succeeded the then Dean in person of Prof. Umar Usman Pateh who come on sabbatical leave too from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. The Department is currently on the coordination of Pharm. Mohammed Adamu Auwal and has at the moment four (4) permanent, Sabbatical academic staff, five (5) non- academic and 8 visiting staff out of which 7 are professors.

MISSION

This can be seen in the mission statement of the faculty by training students to develop competence in pharmacy education and practice through a requisite of background knowledge of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry among other areas of pharmacy disciplines.

VISSION

Is to persue excellence in area of pharmaceutical Chemistry through learning research, collaboration and community services leading to its development.
