About the Department

The B.Sc Public Administration Programme began in 2005 at the inception of the University under the Department of Political Science. It became a full-fledged Department in 2007. Currently, it has 15 Academic staff 2 Non Academic and 4 Visiting with about 884 students. The Department has graduated 9 batches of its students in the 2008/2009 to 2016/2017. The Department is headed by an academic staff who coordinates and oversees the activities of the department. The Departmental Board comprising all the teaching staff, manages the activities of the Department, especially in broad policy matters concerning staff and students’ discipline, minor complaints/petitions, the conduct of Lectures/examinations, teaching and instruction materials, etc Admission into the B.Sc. (Public Administration) Four-years Full-time Degree programme and Five –years Part-time Degree Programme of the Gombe State University should possess a WAEC or National Examination Council Examination (NECO) Certificate, with at least five (5) credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Government or History, Economics or Commerce and any other relevant subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.Candidates for (Direct Entry) in Part Time Programme: those who join the programme at 200 level must in addition to the above have two A/level passes in Government/History or both Economics and Commerce. The subjects passed must include two social science subjects or at least one social science subject. Candidates with any other qualification(s) as may be prescribed or determined by the University as the case may be.

Objectives of the Department

The major objective of Degree Programmes in Public Administration are:
  •  Provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems related to the management and administration of both public and private organizations.
  •  Equip the student to contribute meaningfully towards the attainment of national goals
  •  Equip students with knowledge and skills of decision-making especially the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining and solving problems.
  •  Develop in students, leadership and interpersonal relations skills in management.
