About The Director

  •  QS Salisu Murtala, FNIQS, RQS, CCArb, MNSE, AACE, MNIM, CISM was born on October 16th 1978. Started his primary Education at the famous Gombe Children School between 1984 to 1989, Government Unity College Bauchi from 1990 to 1995. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi 1997 to 2003 where he obtained B.Tech (Hons) Quantity Surveying. He further his studies to postgraduate at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and obtained Masters Degree M. Tech in Construction Management in 2017. He also obtained Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the Gombe State University in 2019 and currently a PhD student.

  •  Tender Evaluation, analysis and reporting of cost implications on contractual issues.
  •  Monitoring and supervision of all new construction projects embarked upon by the university, right from the starting up to the completion period.
  •  Maintenance and repairs of vehicles, plants and buildings of the university.

Objectives

    About

    The University Works Department is a directorate which is charged with the responsibilities of provision, maintenance and servicing of physical infrastructures / facilities of the University for teaching, learning and research. Example, Buildings, Road Networks, Electricity, Garden / parks and water supply.

    Activities

    •  The Department has two major activities:
    •  Operations and Maintenance
    •  Physical Development and Construction

    The Operation and Maintenance Units is responsible for:

    •  Water supply, distribution and maintenance, we have an independent water supply, the supply is mostly from the university boreholes in Mallam Inna feeding our main booster station that will pump the water into the campus; University water tanks also distribute the water to the University Main campus, and to the Key management staffs residential houses.
    •  Electrical Supply and maintenance, this includes maintenance of electrical equipment such as transformers, Generators, feeder fillers etc. Supervision of engineering services for the Tetfund projects Installation and maintenance of street lights Electrical installation of buildings Repair and electrical fault tracing.
    •  Transportation and Maintenance, this section is managing the vehicles of the university their operations I.e. the Drivers of the vehicles and their General maintenance.
    •  General Maintenance: this section is responsible with General plumbing works and maintenance, carpentry, sewage management and disposal, welding and iron bending, lastly is masonry division. Which are responsible for general maintenance of buildings within the University.

    The Physical Development and Construction Unit

    •  Quantity Survey Unit: They are responsible for contract administration, cost / pricing arm of the department, preparation of bill of quantities for all university projects, actively involved in the evaluation and analysis of tender documents, prepares works valuation / final account, recommendations and cost control on the university projects and also involved in monitoring and supervision of all on going university projects
    •  Architectural design Unit: This unit is tasked with conceptualization of design briefs and produces architectural design of all structures of the university, assists in the planning and coordination of new facilities of the university by providing sufficient information to the university external consultants, also involved in monitoring and supervision of all on going university projects
    •  Civil/ Structural Engineering Unit: provide necessary assistance in providing Structural design for the university projects, and also assists in the planning and coordination of new facilities of the university by providing sufficient briefs to the university external consultants, also involved in monitoring and supervision of all on going university projects
    •  Electrical Engineering unit: provide necessary assistance in engineering services for the university projects, also involved in monitoring and supervision of all on going university projects.

    Tetfund Projects

    TETFund Projects

    •  Construction of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Complex.
    •  Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a Tetfund 2014/15/16 intervention project. The project is a 3 storey building Octagonal shape, comprising of Six (6) departments, each department contain Head of department/ Secretary office in suite, Three Professorial offices in suite, Four senior lecturers offices, Two large junior lecturers offices, Departmental board rooms, Two number laboratories, two number seminar rooms, with conveniences, it also has Dean / Secretary’s office in suite, faculty board room, faculty library, and enough circulation area/ waiting with Asphaltic concrete parking space/ soft land scaping at the external part of the building.
    •  Normal Intervention: This is TetFund 2017 normal intervention which involves the construction of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the building is currently at the stage of painting and external works
