HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY

The Department of Human Physiology was established in 2010 as part of the College of Medical Sciences, Gombe State University by the pioneer Vice Chancellor Professor Abdullahi Mahdi and Provost Professor G.D. Kalaye. The Department was headed by Professor Aliyu Mohammed from 2010 - 2014, and then was succeeded by Dr. Ibrahim Lai from 2014 - 2016 in an acting capacity and substantial HOD from 2017 till date. The Department has ten (10) academic staff that specialised in different aspect of human physiology such as endocrine physiology, neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, reproductive physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, exercise and metabolisms. During the 2017/2018 academic session, the Department mounted a BS.c degree programme in Human Physiology and is currently servicing MBBS, Human Anatomy and B.Pharm Programmes. The Department has a well-equip laboratory manned by three (3) technical staff for conducting practical sessions and serves as an excellent research centre in different areas of human physiology.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the undergraduate physiology program is to train students in theoretical, practical and applied physiology to make such graduates suitable to utilize the basic knowledge for future problem solving and other applications such as practice of medicine, other health sciences or research practice. The graduate should be able to function as entrepreneur whether in public service or self-employed.
