The Department of Economics was established in the academic year 2005/2006 when Gombe State University formally started its Degree Programmes. The Department at inception started with 25 students and only two (2) teaching Staff. The Department currently has 3 Professor, 2 Readers, 3 Senior Lecturers, 3 Lecturer 1, 7 Lecturer II, 3 Assistant Lecturers and 1 Graduate Assistant (the staff strength comprises both permanent and temporary staff). There are non-teaching staff in the Department from the University Registry Unit.
Admission Requirements
Candidates for admission into the 4 year degree Programme must of necessity possess a senior Secondary School Certificate or National Examination Council or a General Certificate of Education or their equivalents with at least 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings. Specifically Candidates must have obtained a credit pass in Mathematics, English Language and Economics in addition to 2 credits in relevant subjects. In addition candidates must have acceptable passes in UME and Post-Ume aptitude test/Pre admission Screening.
Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall have five credits in General of Education or its equivalent of which at least two shall be in the advanced level, preferably IJMB.
