Head of Legal Unit

VISION, MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

  •  Assist in handling of all matters affecting the University
  •  Assist the University in providing sound legal advice that will enhance the corporate existence of the University
  •  To give advice on all legal problems of the University to reduce to the bearest minimum, cost and legal embarrassment
  •  Engage in the corporation of some companies for the University if any
  •  Efficient and effective legal instruction on business relationship between University and outside world
  •  Proper documentation of leases and tenancies for effective income generation for the University
  •  Documentation of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and other related instruments for national and international cooperative understanding and collaboration academic and non-academic matters
  •  To ensure that all the rules and policies operating for the smooth running of the University are adequately and strictly adhered to
  •  To ensure that all disciplinary measures for both the staff and students of the University are compliance with consonance with the condition of some of their staff and students respectively.
  •  To ensure that all rules and regulation of the University are applied to all categories of persons in the University without bias.

About the Legal unit

The Legal Unit was created to cater for the Legal needs and or problems of the University. Therefore, because of the needs to advice the University Administration on the legal needs of the University and Litigation that might likely arise from members of staff, students of the University and other individuals of the unit was deemed necessary. The University from inception has always maintained the service of an External Solicitor, who is a Private Legal Practitioner, on ad-hoc basis, to handle its day-to-day litigation in Court. The External Legal Practitioner is however not directly involved in the in-house legal issues of the University to handle the legal unit, is the one responsible to oversee the running of the in-house legal issue of the University.

Duties of the Unit

  •  To take charge of all legal matters in the University and liaison with the University External Solicitor
  •  To draft all legal instruments affecting the University
  •  The provision of day-to-day legal activities to the University
  •  Membership/Secretaryship of some University Standing and Ad-hoc Committees Secretaryship of university owned companies
  •  Any other function that may be assigned to the unit either by the Vice Chancellor or any other arm of the University on legal matters.
