Our Department is growing significantly and we are now housing over12people – that is, 8 teaching or research staff and 1administrative staff. Amongst the new arrivals, we welcome in particular Dr. H.U.Danmalam a visiting lecturer, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.His appointment is part of our broader strategic mission to nurture and further develop the staff strength of the Department. We have also been fortunate to be able to appoint Maryam Wabili a B.Sc. holder in Botany and Postgraduate Diploma in Herbal Medicine from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, who has taken up the position of Herbarium Keeper of newly established Herbariumunit of the Department. The herbarium housed more than one hundred preserved plant families comprising of different genera and species as reference for our students and other students of the University particularly those from Department of Biological Science.
The University financed both academic and non-academic staff to attend various conferences and workshop for their development. Some staff were also promoted during the period of the report.Department will continue to do more and more vital efforts to staff and student success and will help more students to achieve their potentials.

Objectives of the Department
1. Provision of excellent teaching and research that will favorably meet the contemporary challenges in the health sector
2. Promotion of entrepreneurship and trade in herbal medicine through regular and responsive program
3. Efficient and effective community service through awareness campaign on the uses and abuse of medicinal plant
